potofawesome:

Okay, so Skyward Sword has been out for a while now, and it’s gotten a lot of praise. It’s also gotten a lot of criticisms. In my opinion, this criticism falls into two different categories:

1. Plain stupidity, and whiny fanboy/fangirl complaining

2. Legitimate criticism

Today I was browsing YouTube, and I came across a video about Skyward Sword Graphics compared to Twilight Princess. The video was horrible (it showed one picture of SS Link and one picture of TP Link side by side, and there was nothing else on the whole 2:08 seconds of video), but it had plenty of comments, and of course they were arguing over which game is better. Normally, I ignore YouTube comments because face it, it’s mostly troll bilge.

But, this time I couldn’t help myself. I had to see what they were saying. And it was as I expected. The competitors for Simpleton of the Year were all in attendance.

Here it is, the list of the top  most ignorant criticism for TLoZ Skyward Sword! (in no particular order)

1. “It just doesn’t feel like Zelda anymore since Twilight Princess.”

How? The story line in SS is basically the SAME THING as previous console versions.

2. “Um, well…Zelda was so beautiful in TP! In SS she looks like a farm girl!”

So…Zelda’s appearance was a major factor for you? THAT decided whether or not you liked the game? Anyway, it makes complete sense. In TP, Zelda is supposed to appear regal, beautiful; like a fairy tale princess. In Skyward Sword, she is a close friend; she’s on the same level as you are. She can’t very well look like some statuesque goddess, right?!

3. “I don’t like the meshing of OoT and Windwaker.”

You know you’re an idiot, right. Those games are NOT a mix of each other. The art style is based on impressionism. -_-

4. “It doesn’t look dark like Twilight Princess!”

Why…oh why…does everything have to be dark to be appealing to people these days? I’m not even kidding; it’s all I ever see. People whining because everything isn’t dark enough, and complaining that bright colors hurt their eyes. They think darkness looks more ‘realistic’?! So I guess they all just live in their basements.

5. “The motion controls are retarded. Why does Link hold his sword out like he’s going to lance something?”

Maybe…just maybe…it’s because you’re HOLDING THE WII REMOTE out like that. What do you expect from motion controls? What is he supposed to do? If you want him to hold the sword normally, then HOLD YOUR ARM NORMALLY!

6. “Link looks like a girl.”

Has Link EVER looked hard? NO. He looks like a young boy. This game is no different. He looks like an Asian boy with blond hair and blue eyes. This is no argument whatsoever.

7. “The graphics don’t look as good.”

People…stop associating realism with GOOD GRAPHICS. These same people would claim that the HD demo has better graphics, because of REALISM….when the lighting is not realistic at all. (it looks great though)

Bottom line is: Skyward Sword is NOT Twilight Princess; it wasn’t meant to be, and it’s its own game with its own style. Personally, I find Skyward Sword to be more pleasant to my eyes than Twilight Princess. Both games are masterpieces though, and I don’t really see why the two have to be compared. They’re both fantastic in their own rights.

Now, there are some legitimate criticisms about the game, which I have addressed before, but I’ll quickly mention them again.

1. The final boss is a disappointment

2. Exploration is a bit lacking

3. There’s no fishing (matters to me only I guess lol)

4. The harp wasn’t that fun. It sounded nice, but…

5. You can’t name your Loftwing. Awwww (again, matters only to me probably)

6. I think it could have used more side quests

So…you guys can agree or disagree with me in my ask if you want. I just felt I had to put this out there and get it off my chest. If you guys have any more ignorant criticisms, or if you have any more legitimate crit, send it my way. I don’t mind.

Well, I’m not fond of fishing in Zelda games (though it could have been fun to be able to catch fish with the net) and I don’t really care about naming the Loftwing, but apart from that, I basically agree with everything you said. Skyward Sword really is a great game. It has a few flaws like any other game, but it’s beautiful the way it is and fun to play.
